Pesky Gadgets

Hold it there...I am not reviewing Apple's iPad or anything. I have seen enough Apple bashing in blogosphere recently. Believe it or not I am going to review a very non-technical kitchen gadget. Ha! Now you will wonder how come a cooking-hater is doing a review of Kitchen Gadget? Read on and you will know....

I am a 'kitchen gadget stalker'. I get starry eyed whenever I visit shops selling kitchen stuff. My heart skips a beat and I feel like a kid in a toy shop (I must be a cook in my past life, no wonder I obsess so much about cooking in my Blog).  My eyes glaze over and I am smacking my lips....okayyy, I know you got the picture.

So, during one of my forays into 'The Kingdom of Delights', I came upon a gadget which I thought will make my life a bit easier. After much haggling with Hubs I went and bought this thingamajig.

I present to you....

I had to quickly put this wonderful looking gadget to use. I decided to make some Pasta. And yes...I needed Garlic and lots of it.

I peeled a ton of garlic, put a few pods in the garlic press and squeezed the handles expecting a nice heap of crushed garlic.

After all the effort, all I got was some dribbles of garlic juice. I opened up the sucker and found that the garlic has stuck to those spikes and was refusing to let go. I broke a kitchen knife trying to pry out the slivers. But those suckers were adamant and stuck on.

After a long fight with 'Mr. Loser' I gave up and dumped the lousy thing in the sink. I proceeded to mash those blighter's in my mortar and pestle the old fashioned way.

After this incident I vowed never to go and buy such shiny trinkets how much ever they enticed me to buy them. If you have never tried this gadget, don't fall for it's smooth and sleek looks and waste precious money on it.

  1. I have never had a garlic press that I didn't hate. Just slam the garlic with the side of a knife blade and the skin pops right off. BETTER YET buy the pre-smushed garlic in those little jars.........BETTER YET buy Prego lol

  8. You see why our Grandmom's used to use the good ole methods of crushing foodstuffs when required? That small hammer like thing and the brass cylinder, for eg.:)The more we veer towards technology, the more complex it becomes, many times.Doesn't it?

  12. Nice informative, post. I usually use garlic paste whenever I cook (though it isn't the same thing).

I'm a firm believer that a kitchen gadget should have multiple uses. But then again what do I know? I still cut pizza with a knife, not one of those fancy pizza cutters.

  13. Nish: My review has helped you....atleast it brought a smile to your face :)

Anirban: Thanks :) I prefer using fresh garlic hence that gadget.

Investing in Pizza cutter would be a good option...it is really good...
